Best bet is to fly to Zadar ( Croatia airlines ) even thats a bit more expensive but

You dont have to use a rental car or a pick up to get to Zadar.

If there are no flights on the day you want to travel to Zadar,

the best is to fly to Split and take a rent a car , 1 h 30 min drive

Or to Zagreb, 2 h 30 min drive, in both cases you can use unirent one way to

Zader, or keep the car for the days you stay
